Burton Ghana Community Development CIC is developing a range of community programmes across Burton upon Trent and the surrounding area. Our work spans employment and skills, health and wellbeing, children and families, community inclusion and enterprise. Where programmes are planned and not yet running, we have clearly indicated this below.
We are developing a range of employment support activities to help residents in Burton find work, improve their skills and explore self-employment. Our planned provision covers practical job search support, digital skills, vocational training and entrepreneurship.
Practical workshops to help residents write effective CVs, prepare for interviews and present themselves confidently to employers.
Accessible training in computer basics, online job searching, email and digital forms to help residents engage with the modern job market.
Signposting and support to access vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and career development opportunities relevant to the local labour market.
Guidance and workshops for residents who want to explore starting their own business, covering planning, finance and accessing support.
We are planning a programme of health and wellbeing activities to support residents across Burton. Our focus is on prevention, awareness and community-based support, with activities designed to be accessible and welcoming to all.
Free awareness sessions covering common health topics including diabetes, hypertension, healthy eating and physical activity, open to all community members.
Workshops and peer support activities to raise awareness of mental health, reduce stigma and help residents access appropriate support.
Separate wellbeing sessions for men and women, providing a safe and supportive space to discuss health concerns and access information.
Community exercise sessions, healthy cooking demonstrations and lifestyle workshops to encourage active and healthy living across all age groups.
We are committed to supporting children, young people and families in Burton. Our planned activities aim to build confidence, develop skills and provide positive opportunities for young people to grow and thrive.
One-to-one and group mentoring for young people aged 11 to 25, helping them build confidence, set goals and develop the skills they need for adult life.
After-school and holiday homework support for children and young people who need extra help with their studies or who lack a suitable environment at home.
Structured sports, arts and creative sessions providing young people with positive activities, teamwork opportunities and a sense of belonging.
Practical workshops and peer support for parents and carers, covering positive parenting approaches, family wellbeing and navigating local services.
We believe that strong communities are built on mutual understanding and respect. Our planned inclusion and integration activities bring people from different backgrounds together, support newcomers to Burton and celebrate the diversity of our community.
Practical support and signposting for newly arrived individuals and families, helping them access services, understand their rights and settle into life in Burton.
Friendly weekly sessions for residents who want to practise and improve their spoken English in a welcoming and informal environment.
Community events and cultural celebrations that bring residents together, promote mutual understanding and showcase the diversity of Burton.
Opportunities for residents to connect with one another, get involved in community activities and contribute their skills and time as volunteers.
We are developing a programme of enterprise and financial empowerment activities to help residents in Burton build sustainable income opportunities and improve their financial wellbeing. Our planned provision is open to all community members.

Step-by-step workshops for aspiring entrepreneurs covering business planning, marketing, pricing and the practical steps to starting a business.
A dedicated network for women in the community who want to start or grow a business, offering peer support, mentoring and access to resources.
Guidance on identifying and applying for grants, loans and other funding opportunities available to community members and small businesses.

We are actively developing our community programmes and look forward to working with residents, partners and funders across Burton and the surrounding area.
